Worcester, MA. – The YMCA of Central Massachusetts invites the media and the public to join in celebrating the start of construction for a Teen Achievement Center, Community Room and expanded Wellness Center, at the Central Community Branch. A marking ceremony will be held at 10:00a.m.on Monday, November 9th, 2015 at 766 Main Street, Worcester, MA. Similar to a groundbreaking, the marking ceremony will allow attendees to “leave their mark” in support of the renovation projects.
“Located in the heart of the Main South neighborhood, this community branch reflects the rich diversity of Worcester and serves as a magnet for health and wellness along with quality youth and teen initiatives, said Paula Green, Chair of the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. Projects planned for our Central Community Branch will improve space utilization and service delivery to increase and expand the Y’ impact. The 150th Anniversary Capital Campaign will continue our legacy of impact through significant reinvestment. We now boldly seize the opportunity to transform our organization with a $12 million investment in our facilities, of which $8.5 million will come from our capital campaign, she continued.”
The Central Community Branch is expanding and the projects include:
- Teen Achievement Center: Focused on building the leaders of tomorrow, this two floor dedicated teen space, will be comprised of a modern technology center to support academic achievement, rock climbing, paired with a Wellness Area and open space for programming and recreation.
- Wellness Center Expansion: An addition to the current Wellness Center this will be an enhanced space for functional training, added programs and services.
- Family Locker Room: Meeting the needs of our families, this spacious changing area will have modern features for the whole family that make preparing for their Y experience safe, easy and enjoyable.
