YMCA ANNUAL REPORT
Learn about our Annual Meeting & Volunteer Appreciation Event
Greetings from the Y!
As we present our 160th Annual Report to the community, I am grateful for the work we have accomplished together over the past year. It has been a period marked by expansion, growth, and the deepening of meaningful relationships, reaffirming our commitment to serving the children, teens, and families of Central Massachusetts.
Reflecting on the past year, it is clear that our North Star remains unwavering. Since assuming the role of President and CEO in 2019, my philosophy has centered on serving people with innovative programs and services while securing philanthropic support to ensure access for all. This philosophy continues to guide us as we navigate the challenges and opportunities of today.
In 2023, we experienced promising membership trends, surpassing pre-pandemic numbers and serving over 35,000 members. Our dedication to meeting local needs remained steadfast, exemplified by our support of 230+ cancer thrivers through LIVESTRONG® at the Y. There was tremendous participation with over 18,000 children served in camp, early education and care, out-of-school time, teen, youth, and aquatic programming. Additionally, we expanded several after-school sites, providing safe, quality, and affordable care for families in our community.
I am particularly proud of our progress on the Worcester Community Capital Campaign, where significant fundraising strides were made, culminating in the launch of construction in the fall. As we move into 2024, we will continue these capital projects, modernizing our Worcester facilities and expanding our footprint to better serve our community.
One of many highlights of 2023 was our year-end signature event, “Rekindling our Spirit: An Evening of Impact,” held at Mechanics Hall, the YMCA’s original home. Surrounded by over 330 YMCA friends, I was reminded of the tremendous responsibility we have been entrusted with—to build and strengthen the spirit, mind, and body of all. I extend my heartfelt thanks to our members, donors, volunteers, and Mission Partners for your trust and confidence in your YMCA.
As we look to the future, let us continue to work together to fulfill our mission and positively impact the lives of those we serve.
With appreciation,
David Connell
President and CEO
